Supporting Indigenous Australians to thrive in the digital world in partnership with the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence

What happens when digital technology is embraced by the world’s oldest living continuous culture?  We believe the answer is Indigenous Digital Excellence (IDX).

The Telstra Foundation and the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) have forged an exciting partnership to unlock the opportunities the digital world can provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

IDX recognises the opportunity to embrace digital excellence ‘on country’ and ‘on line’. It aims to strengthen Indigenous participation, practice and entrepreneurship in the digital economy including:

  • working with community to deliver compelling and engaging learning experiences that build the next generation of “digital making” skills
  • capacity and skills building for young Indigenous entrepreneurs.

This ambitious project is striving to ensure that digital technology strengthens connections to Indigenous culture, community and country.

To understand the IDX opportunity, we started with a wide-reaching research, consultation and collaboration project including a two-day summit and seven-week social media conversation. Together we engaged more than 1,000 Indigenous people from Redfern to the Torres Strait. See more on this consultation process here.
